People have been cooking eggs as a serious profession since the 1800’s. It has only been since the late 1960’s
that new styles and gadgets for cooking eggs have really become popularized. In more recent times people have
become fussy about their eggs and want them perfect every time. The Cuisinart egg cooker is one of
those mechanical wonders that is able to make perfect eggs every time, so let’s look at it.
Here is the Cuisinart Stainless-Steel Egg Cooker CEC-7

- Beautiful stainless steel lid
- It can cook up to 7 eggs at one time and cook them hard or medium boiled as well as poached
- There are special water line markers and shell pins to help prevent the eggs from cracking open while
cooking
- Very simple to use with on and off switches as well as audio signals
I hate rubbery boiled eggs as much as the next person and it seems that is how they were always turning out when
I cooked eggs in a pot of salted water. So getting an egg cooker wasn’t a hard decision for me. You load it up with
eggs, added the required amount of water, close the lid, flip the switch, and 17 minutes later your eggs are
done.
- Benefits -
Right away you will notice there is basically very little chance for you to burn yourself from steam if you open
the lid properly like the directions tell you to. If you have to, put on a pair of oven mitts or something long to
protect yourself. I use a pair of tong to take the eggs out and put them in to cold water, which works a treat
every time.
The eggs really do turn out perfect every time. There is no green ring around the yolk or grayish yolks. The
unit is dead simple to use and there is little mess to clean after it’s finished.
And of course the unit itself is very compact and doesn’t take up more space than it has to. This is definitely
a bonus for people who live in apartments with limited space.
- Issues -
I do have a couple of issues with the Cuisinart Egg Cooker. The first is that there is some
sort of strange smell after the eggs are finished cooking. It might be just the water cooking that is saturated
with egg shell residue but I really can’t describe it as it’s something very unique.
The poached eggs turn out in the shape of a triangle. Interesting shape and I understand that they did this to
be able to poach more eggs at the same time but I would have preferred to have them oval shaped even if I could
only cook 3 or 4 of them at a time.
Overall, for less than $30 this Cuisinart Egg Cooker is a no brainer when it comes to kitchen
gadgets.
